| US Samurais in Bruyères by Pierre Moulin (55 $) This is a beautiful coffee table reference book in hard cover, 375 pages with 900 pictures in both Black and White and color, noted by the President of the Republic of France. This book is not a novel but a historical account of the 36th Division and the 100/442nd RCT saga (The most decorated unit in US army history) telling their story in an hour by hour record at the Battle of Bruyeres and the rescue of the Texas Lost Battalion (one of the TEN major battles in US history). The book follows the story of the Americans of Japanese ancestry who were part of the Great generation who fought in WW II and the landmark events which evolved after the War. The story of the Nisei from Pearl Harbor and the concentration camps on the Mainland, to the Military Intelligence Service in the Pacific, the 100/442nd RCT in Italy and in France, the 522nd F.A. in Dachau Germany. It commemorates the big reunions, the role played by the people of Bruyeres to help the Redress movement beginning with the JACL plaque presented in 1947 through the petition urging Reagan to sign the Civil Liberties Act and ending with the Peace and Freedom Trail of the 36th Division, the dedication of the 36th Division street and the 36th Division Memorial and more and more. The author of US Samurais in Bruyeres, Pierre Moulin is a well-known French historian of the Nisei and said to be the best researched about the 100/442nd RCT in France. His father worked for the OSS and was decorated by Wild Bill Donovan himself for his work during the Battle of Bruyeres.
